How to encourage English department students to speak English more often and confidently

Speaking English is more important for English Department Students. But, many student  rarely speak in English. They are never practice and they are not confidence to speak English. I think many students who did not want to speak in a foreign language because they did not want their peers to judge them as being inadequate.  There are  steps to encourage English Department student to speak English more often and confidently.
First, try to arouse the students interested the lesson, thus involving their emotions. We can give activities and materials which frequently engage students include, like a games, conversation, discussions, giving opinion from discussions, question and answer,  debate, watching film, or something  else that can make the students active to improve their speaking in the class.
Second, giving emancipation for the students  when they try to improve their skill to speak. If they make mistake, don’t be judge in front of their friends, that can make them down. They are usually exposed to language which they more or less understand even if they can’t produce the same language spontaneously themselves.
Third, we can give the students  motivated to learn the language in order to be able to communicate.
Fourth,  getting students to have free discussion gives them a chance to rehearse having discussions outside the classroom. Having them take part in a role-play at an airport check-in desk allows them to rehearse such a real-life event in the safety of the classroom. This is not the same as practice in which more detailed study takes place, instead it is a way for students to get the feel of what communicating in the foreign language really feels like.
Good speaking activities can and should be highly motivating. If all the students are participating fully and if the teacher has set up the activity properly and can then give sympathetic and useful feedback, they will get tremendous satisfaction from it.
